When you don't blog for three weeks, the pictures pile up and it becomes hard to know where to start since the last time you said anything was so long ago.
Thus no introduction to our latest summer wanderings. . .

Ms. Swihart - last day of first grade
Madelyn finished first grade at the cottage school on May 24th. The class performed Aesop fables for the parents. Madelyn was in three of the skits but her favorite was the lion and the mouse.
We left for Kansas City on the last day of school to attend the C&MA General Council. Troy had to work at the conference and we tagged along with him for the 5 day trek. There's something fun about hotel breakfasts, pool time and food network that thrills my kids. We also checked out a few fun places in the city during the daytime while Troy was working. A beautiful park with fountains and rose gardens, the Hallmark headquarters and children's art place, Kaleidoscope.

We arrived back home in time for Troy to catch up on a few days of work before he took another day off for our anniversary...nine years on June 1. A dear friend watched the girls for the day and Troy and I enjoyed a day "just married". We ate breakfast at one of my favorite places, Adam's Mt. Cafe in Manitou Springs. It was such a beautiful day, we ate our omelets and french toast outside. (I like having my anniversary in the summer as I have a winter birthday and never get out much in December!) It was a fun day to reconnect without interruption or distractions from our little ones...reminds us of what it was like at the beginning. :) One of my gifts to Troy was "detailing" his car inside and out, and with the great convenience of him taking the van to get some work done one day, the girls helped me surprise him!
The rest of our summer has been sunshine, parks, bikes and water! Seriously, I think we have been outside most daytime hours since we got home. We even pile stacks of books on the worn quilt and read in the shade of the tree when it gets too hot to play hard.

Lastly, an update on my spring cleaning plans. I did get most of my house cleaned before we left on our trip but when we returned I discovered my sister was having a yard sale the following weekend. So I once again scoured my house and even got to some places that were overlooked on the first round, like some storage boxes in the basement. We filled up our van with mostly junk and enjoyed making a few dollars but mostly coming home to an emptier house. :) My sister's friend wrote about his experience with their recent yard sale and it was so hilariously true, I had to repost it.
