school time

This week we started school time for Maddie. That mostly means me sticking to some kind of morning routine that includes some learning time and planned activities. After getting dressed and morning chores finished, we have circle time. I gleaned some awesome ideas from Preschoolers and Peace. Our own circle time includes the Lord's Prayer, our catechism questions, Bible verses, singing (lots of Happy Birthday and If you're Happy and You Know it!) and calendar time (months, days of weeks, weather, numbers, holidays). We then play outside doing some kind of planned activity like riding bikes, drawing with chalk, painting with water on the sidewalk or going on a nature walk. The other two things that I'm intentially doing with Maddie specifically are Before Five in a Row and The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading. I'm really enjoying the help both of these book provide in organizing my jumbled thoughts! This week we're reading the Carrot Seed and Maddie loves it! She likes it so much that she wanted to read it on camera...
