I am amazed at how much I am learning by teaching my children. We baked hamentashen this morning, (even though we were out of eggs, sugar and jelly supposedly needed to fill them with. It's good to learn to improvise, right?. . .extra credit for the students). They were made in celebration of Purim as that's the current topic in our Tapestry of Grace studies. We actually finished our Old Testament survey this week. Anyway, they are a filled pastry in the shape of a triangle to commemorate the villain of the story of Purim/Esther - Haman. I'm not sure why they make cookies to remember the enemy or what that has to do with triangles (though some tradition says Haman had a three-cornered hat). The word is haman-taschen which tranlates to "Haman's pockets". So after that lesson, here are our chocolate-chip filled cookies!
I think chocolate would be better anyway! ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious! We just finished Beth Moore's Esther study and she had a recipe for those Haman cookies...if I would have thought of chocolate, I might of tried them, too. Way to go in celebrating Purim!
