love box

Inspired by a crafty blogger, I made Troy a little something this afternoon. This was all done spur of the moment, including a right at nap-time, quick trip to Hobby Lobby for a few supplies. We've had a bit of a long week and I wanted to give him something special on our date tonight. Presenting, Troy's Box of Love or it could be titled, The Bad Day Box.

I started with a one of those cardboard craft boxes and decorated it with scrapbook paper. Then I filled it with love notes, favorite candy, and some little somethings, using just markers, stickers, ribbon, and scraps of fun paper.

I didn't have any glue and by the end of the project I was also out of tape. Just what happens when you do crafts with young children using up all the art supplies. I see it as a good challenge to my creativity and frugality. I also don't currently have access to a printer so these became all hand-written messages.

The label for the lid of the box:

For a day when you're sad,
Or I've made you mad,

When you need a little more,
and I'm being a bore!

This box will be there,
So, please, don't despair,

Because, my love, it's true,
I really do love you.

So, the point of the box is for those rough moments when my husband needs a little love (probably in response to a mistake by myself). It's all prepared, it's ready for the weak moment, to turn a disheartening time into one of smiles. He is only allowed to take one or two at a time, meaning hopefully the box will last a long time. Obviously, I'm assuming that moments like this will continue to be in our marriage, though we pray they will be less and less. Even if it's not me personally that has made his day hard, he can still find encouragement within the box! If you don't have these types of days in your marriage anymore, then you can just disregard this post. :)

Some of the ideas in my box...if you're interested in making one someday...
  • "When you feel like you're getting a cold shoulder": hot chocolate & marshmallows with an attached note about warming up your heart.
  • I found an AirHead candy and made a fun note about myself. :)
  • Some random change, enough for a coffee
  • Several love notes personally to him, mostly expressing my admiration
  • Love poems and love songs that are special to us
  • some candy I know he enjoys
I'm looking forward to giving it to him tonight and enjoying the weekend with my man!
